I absolutely love Campervan’s. I think of our family holidays every time I see one. I love all the tourist gift shops in coastal towns that sell all the campervan and beach hut items. I just can’t get enough and have dreams of living by the sea one day.
I have been attempting to draw campervan’s for a long time and have struggled to get one that I'm happy with. After learning the corner-to-corner (c2c) crochet technique, which can use graph charts or pixel graphs, and making Kameron’s Action Man Blanket, I thought why not jump straight in and design one in a graph to turn into a blanket. It took me three attempts but once I got the sizing right, I was confident it would turn out how well.
The blanket took me about a week and a half to complete (working mostly in the evenings). It is soft and cosy for keeping a little one snug. It is the perfect size to use in a pram, car seat, moses basket or even a campervan and is different from other baby blankets. You can make this into one specifically for a girl or boy by making it pink or blue. It can even be made bigger by increasing the number of squares around the outside edge, which on this blanket would be more cream squares. I was overjoyed with the final result. It turned out just how I had pictured it in my mind. This is one of my projects that I am the most proud of. This inspired me to share it with you to inspire your creativity.
The overall finished size of the blanket, for pram size, was approx. 77cm/30″ by 61cm/24″.
I worked the blanket in the Corner to Corner (C2C) crochet technique using UK Half Treble Crochet/htr (US Half Double Crochet/hdc), with a UK Double Crochet/dc (US Single Crochet/sc) edging. It also involved a lot of colour changing, giving me lots of practice and building my crochet confidence. The pattern is mainly for intermediate level but a beginner could achieve it as well, with the help of online tutorials for the c2c technique. I recommend Bella Coco’s YouTube channel for the UK and RepeatCrafterMe blog for the US. These are amazing and easy to follow. BE WARNED - once you start this technique you will be completely hooked and your creative crochet ideas will go off the scale.

The crochet hook I used was an 4mm/UK 8 [US G/6].
I give the Stylecraft Special DK yarn 5 out of 5 for the following reasons:-
- It is amazing to work up;
- There is an extensive range of colours;
- It is wonderfully soft for a DK yarn;
- The finished result is lightweight, yet warm and cosy;
- It is extremely cheap and cost effective – I paid about £1.95 per 100g ball (but there are places that sell it cheaper) and it was worth every penny.;
- Would I use this yarn again? YES, DEFINITELY.
I hope this brings you #creativejoyandinspiration.
